Tips on Saving Money
Are you living paycheck to paycheck? Do you
have a savings account but not much in it? We will give you some tips and
information to help you learn how to save your money and build up a nest
egg of your own.
Set Up A Budget
If you do not have a budget, you are in
trouble. Many people say that they just do not have money to save. The
people who say that usually do not have a budget.
A budget will allow you to decide where your money is going. Go through
your receipts from the prior month and you will probably see that you are
wasting money. You might be spending too much money on DVD's and CD's or
going out to eat fast food too much.
I'm not saying to never go out or to never buy a new CD but you should set
up a spending limit for these things. You will probably find that by
cutting out unnecessary expenses you can find one or two hundred dollars a
month that you can save.
Set Goals
Set up goals for yourself and make them
realistic. Don't just say that you want to save a million dollars. Make a
goal to save $1000 and then reward yourself when you reach it. Next try to
reach $5000 in savings and then reward yourself. You will soon see that
saving becomes addictive and you will love watching your savings account
grow.
Automate It
If you do not see the money, you won't spend
it. If your employer offers direct deposit, have them transfer a portion
of each check directly into savings.
Save Extra Income
If you come into extra money, save it. When
you get a bonus, work overtime or make any extra unbudgeted money save all
or most of it. You do not need this money for your expenses so just throw
it into savings.
Pay Cash
Pay cash for purchases. Avoid expensive credit
card fees. Make it a goal to get rid of your credit card debt. The
interest will eat you alive. If you cannot afford to pay cash and the item
is not a necessity, do not buy it.
Stay Organized
Save receipts and balance your check book. Its
too easy to spend when you think you have more money in your checking
account than you actually do. Balance your checkbook daily.
